UX-Design | Web-Design | Design Thinking

ABOUT ME

I’m a very curious and problem solving professional with strong communication skills. With my Master degree in Human Factors I have a strong scientific background on the psychological principles which are influencing human machine interactions.

During the last years I was involved in different projects in the fields of Human Factors, UX, Webdesign and Engineering. I lived for several years in Italy, where I was involved in the development of a monitoring system for the static of metal structures. I built up my own e-commerce business and imported one of the best olive oils to Germany to sell it online.

At the moment I am a Human Factors Consultant in Hamburg. I’m working in UX & Human Factors projects in the aviation industry. There I’m involved in the development, evaluation and certification of complex aircraft systems.

I am proficient in using UX methods and tools for user-research, interaction-design and usability-testing.

Besides my role as a consultant I also do web-design in my free time. At the moment I am building up a food blog (because I love good food & drinks) and work on different websites for friends & family.

My inspiration

We must design for the way people behave, not for how we would wish them to behave.

MY WAY OF WORKING

Digging in the topic

When I start in a new project my first aim is to understand as much as possible of what the topic is about. I talk to as many people as possible. Managers, Stakeholders, developers, users. Doing this I dig deeper and deeper into the topic, which is necessary for me to understand, why the product, system, service or whatever the project is about is actually developed.

To become the user’s lawyer

As a UX-Designer I see myself in the role of the user’s lawyer. I am the one who is representing them in front of the developers, product owners, the management and everyone else who is involved in the project. To do so, I always strive to become as familiar with the user group as possible. I talk to as many of them as possible, I observe them while performing their jobs, I visit the places where they are acting and if possible, I become a user myself. Often that is the moment I can clearly understand the needs and desires a user has.

My ability and motivation to understand even very complex topics is a big help in order to achieve the deep understanding of the users.
To give you an example: Once I was involved in the development of a system used by highly trained aircraft personnel. At the end of the project I was able to train users in the system while giving them the right context and being even able to have discussions with them about detailed flight situations.

To visualize my findings, I usually create Personas and User-Journey-Maps to characterize the user group and to understand where the real pain points are. Both I also use to explain my decisions to stakeholders and to sensitize the developers.

Ideation & testing

When it comes to interaction design, first I want to collect ideas. Usually I have a lot of them myself, but I know that there will be better ones somewhere. In fast paper-prototyping sessions with other people involved in the project I collect and combine their ideas to afterwards create several wireframes which I can test with users.

The feedback of them is the most valuable thing there is. It helps me to evaluate the prototype and very often I find out about interesting new things helping me in my deep understanding of the users and their situation. And from my experience, there is always something else, which still no one has told me, but which is an essential thing characterizing the user group.

Communication inside the project

In my role as the user’s lawyer I communicate my ideas and concerns very often. I can present them on point and explain why I concluded.

I am also able to discuss with developers and to explain them my solutions in a technical way. As I am familiar to HTML and CSS it is also possible for me, to deliver my solutions in code.
